about us
Our Mission.
Understanding that parents are our children’s first teachers, we model the Montessori philosophy as a way of life to our children. We honor the ideals of Maria Montessori and support our teachers as they continue to provide high quality Montessori education in the public school setting. Parental involvement is at the core of our success.
Central Kitsap Montessori Program.
The collaborative efforts of parents, community members, and District staff developed the idea of having a public school Montessori program. In September of 1991, the first primary class (grades 1-3) opened.
The Central Kitsap Montessori Program is currently located in Hawk Elementary at Jackson Park in Bremerton, WA. It has grown to a total of six classrooms including a kindergarten class, three primary classes, and two intermediate classes (grades 4-5). It serves approximately 120 students.
Students mostly come from the Central Kitsap School District and are admitted to the program through a formal application process which begins with Parent Information Night in late Winter of each year.
The Central Kitsap Montessori Program is one of the few public school Montessori programs in the state of Washington and one of around 250 across the nation.
Montessori Parents Association.
The Central Kitsap Montessori Parents Association (CKMPA) is a parent organization that provides volunteer and monetary support to the Central Kitsap Montessori Program. We are incorporated as a nonprofit with the State of Washington. The CKMPA Board is represented by a combination of elected and appointed members that meet monthly and hold general meetings twice per year for our Montessori families.
Montessori Advisory Council.
The Montessori Advisory Council (MAC) consists of the principal, Montessori teachers, and the CKMPA Board. The MAC advocates for the integration of the Montessori philosophy and curriculum with district and state standards. It communicates financial needs of the program, including Montessori instructional materials and staff development, to the CKMPA.
